Therapy In The Time Of Coronavirus
Therapy Now
These are unusually challenging times for all of us. Between the lethality of Covid-19 and the atmosphere of political and social polarization, many of us are left confused and disturbed by the world in which we find ourselves. Part of my mission is to help clients find a balance between proactivity and acceptance to meet the demands of these stressors.
Telehealth Therapy
Telehealth therapy (or telemedicine therapy) has become the standard mode since the onset of the Covid-19 Crisis. I am glad to report that this is a mode of therapy that I am already familiar with: in my years working in drug and alcohol rehabilitation I conducted many family sessions of video-conferencing therapy and therapy phones calls. I also conducted many phone sessions and video sessions as part of after-care for clients who completed treatment.
I have now been practicing only online therapy since the first week of March 2020. Quite a few of my clients, including some couples, are people I have never met in person. I am both surprised and happy to report that distance therapy is not impacting the work for those willing to engage.
Online EDMR
After some research and testing I am now offering EMDR online. The practice has a very different feel online but is nonetheless effective. Especially in these times where much old insecurity and trauma are reactivated by current events and the loneliness that many of us are committed to due to quarantine and social distancing. I strongly recommend EMDR to alleviate the suffering of these reawakened traumas.
